Find the mac to your cheese at The Big Cheese

No better way to enjoy macaroni ‘n cheese than to have one made according to your choice of pasta, cheese base and toppings. The Big Cheese has landed. Check out your options.

The regular mac and cheese is usually al dente elbow macaroni drenched in melted cheddar cheese, but there is obviously more than one way to enjoy a comforting blend of cheese and pasta. So, The Big Cheese, a hole-in-the-wall joint in Sunshine Plaza, puts choice in your hands by letting you decide what pasta, cheese and toppings go into the mac and cheese they serve, piping hot.

Step in and let Hakim Abdul Karim, 28, show you how it’s done.

No better way to enjoy Macaroni & Cheese than to customise it with your favourite condiments and pasta. We find out how it's done at The Big Cheese

What’s cooking at The Big Cheese?

Crack through a crispy top to reveal soft pasta coated in cheese. To make that, pick from 4 different types of pasta, 6 types of cheese base, 9 different meat and vegetables and 7 different toppings.

Make-A-Mac, Mac-A-Love (from $5.90)

You must be bored with cheddar and elbow macaroni, so find new love. Fusili, penne and conchiglie are your options for pasta. Then, pick 2 types of cheese from 6 – parmesan, cheddar, mozzarella, gruyere, gouda and feta. Add some meat and vegetables too. Your choice of 2 from beef pepperoni, beef bacon, chicken sausage, chicken ham, mussels, shrimps, broccoli, mushrooms and spinach. Finally, complete your creation with bacon bits, ritz, doritos or parmesan crumbs and a drizzle of garlic or truffle oil. All of that served piping hot in a little brown box.

No choice is a choice: The Big Cheese (from $7.90)

If freedom to choose isn’t your thing, ask for The Big Cheese. Truffled elbow macaroni is blended with cheese and pulled beef, then topped with gruyere cheese. Uncomplicated and light, get one even if you are full from lunch. It’ll be immensely gratifying.

Go meat-free (from $5.50)

Created for the vegan, meat-free options include Four Cheese (parmesan, cheddar, mozzarella and feta), Spinach and Feta and Truffled Mushrooms. Made with classic elbow macaroni and blended cheese sauce, and stuffed with mushrooms and spinach, they taste almost as rich and chewy as their meaty counterparts.

See and be seen.

LASALLE, SOTA and NAFA are sited in the vicinity of Bencoolen Street where Sunshine Plaza stands. This makes the casual bistros and food shops in the building a popular enclave for arts students.

The vibe is effortless street chic.
